Garmin run import

Updated October 26, 2026.

When you enable “Import Garmin runs,” Garmin sends RunToMax new running activity details after your watch syncs with Garmin Connect. These can include activity identifiers, dates, names, distance, duration, GPS route and timestamps, ascent and descent, heart rate, cadence, running power, device temperature, recording device and lap boundaries when provided. Existing history is not imported.

Health import is a separate switch, “Import Garmin health data,” off by default. When you turn it on and allow Daily Health Stats in Garmin Connect, Garmin sends RunToMax daily summaries after your watch syncs. RunToMax keeps only three values from them: last night’s time asleep, your resting heart rate and your overnight HRV average, with their dates. Steps, stress, Body Battery, respiration, Pulse Ox, sleep stages and all other values in those summaries are discarded on receipt and never stored. RunToMax uses the three values for your morning readiness and recovery tiles, on your iPhone, when Apple Health has no value for that night. Health values are stored and deleted like imported runs: encrypted on the server for up to seven days while your iPhone downloads them.

RunToMax uses this data to display your runs, charts and laps, avoid duplicates from Apple Health or Strava, match completed runs to your training plan, update plan progress and calculate training load, recovery estimates and plan adjustments on your device. RunToMax identifies its own estimates separately from Garmin measurements. Your iPhone downloads available runs when RunToMax is active or when you tap “Check for new runs.”

Cloudflare processes and stores encrypted delivery data for RunToMax. The server copy is a temporary sync buffer, retained for up to seven days; provider notifications and interrupted writes are also subject to automatic cleanup. Your local imported runs remain until you delete them. If you separately enable RunToMax account backup, imported run records may be included according to the account-sync policy.

When you use route maps or weather features, Apple processes the locations needed to display maps or retrieve weather. If you choose terrain elevation for a flyover, Amazon AWS receives requests for elevation tiles covering the approximate route area. These services do not receive your Garmin connection credentials. Sharing a run image, video or activity file sends the information you choose to the destination you select, with Garmin identified as a data source. See the full privacy policy for these optional features.

We do not sell Garmin data. Garmin run and health data and derived coaching results are never sent to a cloud AI, advertising or product analytics services, or used to train, evaluate or improve AI models. If you turn on “Apple Intelligence with Garmin data,” Apple’s on-device model writes your daily brief and run analysis from Garmin data on your iPhone; the data does not leave it. Without that consent, or on an iPhone without Apple Intelligence, personalized coaching on Garmin data stays unavailable; on-device calculations and plan progress remain available, and disconnecting or deleting a single run does not remove Garmin contributions already present in saved training context. Withdraw the consent any time in Settings → Privacy. Read the AI statement.

Turn off “Import Garmin runs” to stop new imports and clear retained server activity copies. Turn off “Import Garmin health data,” disconnect, or revoke Daily Health Stats in Garmin Connect to stop health imports and clear the server copies and the health values on your iPhone. Disconnect Garmin Connect or revoke Activities permission in Garmin Connect to stop imports. Garmin permission-change notifications stop the affected processing and clear temporary activity copies when Activities is withdrawn; withdrawing Training stops new workout delivery without disabling permitted imports. Credentials are removed after a Garmin deregistration notification. Minimal hashed notification records prevent stale events or authorization attempts from restoring revoked access; records without a remaining connection grant are eligible for removal after 30 days. Delete a run in Runs to remove its local record. Deleting your Garmin connection data also clears server import records. Previously sent workouts stay in Garmin Connect.
